Second in the broadcast network competition to talk to Sarah Palin: Katie Couric.
The CBS anchor will spend two days on the road with the Republican vice presidential candidate as well as presidential hopeful John McCain, the network said Tuesday.
Couric’s interview material will be aired Sept. 29 and 30 on the “CBS Evening News” and “The Early Show.”
It’s timed for just before the Oct. 2 vice presidential debate between Palin and Democrat Joe Biden.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — Gov. Sarah Palin arrived home to a chanting, cheering crowd, a blur of smiling supporters eager to embrace her after a whirlwind of national scrutiny since she was named Republican presidential nominee John McCain’s running mate.
“It’s been an amazing couple of weeks,” Palin told the crowd of more than 2,000 gathered inside an airport hanger. They chanted, “Sarah, Sarah,” waved signs that said, “Palin Is great.”

PHILADELPHIA — Republican presidential candidate John McCain says he is satisfied that Sarah Palin’s background was properly checked before the Alaska governor became his vice-presidential running-mate.
“The vetting process was completely thorough and I’m grateful for the results,” McCain told reporters as he toured a Philadelphia fire house.

Palin told ABC’s Charles Gibson that since she took office, the state had “drastically” reduced its earmark requests.

Todd Palin, in his first major TV interview since his wife became John McCain’s running mate, said Tuesday that Sarah Palin’s nomination was not a “huge surprise” to him, as he believed she was “destined for higher positions.”
Palin, known affectionately as Alaska’s “First Dude,” spoke with FOX News’ Greta Van Susteren about snowmobile racing, hockey, fishing, moose hunting and working on the Alaska oil fields.
